The images and diagrams shown here are in no way exhaustive. These are just a few examples of how you might set up a metering system, and are simply intend to show what is possible. Each v.4 or v.5 Omnimeter can count pulses from up to three water and/or gas meters. These are the options that you might consider for your metering setup:
- Do I want to read the meter(s) locally with computer or do I want a cloud based solution (EKM Push3).
- Do I want to meter electricity and/or water and/or gas?
- If you want to meter electricity, what type of electrical system is it and how many CTs will you need?
- Do I need to go wireless?
- Do I have a need to daisy chain multiple Omnimeters together?
Connection Instructions:
Follow these instructions to connect a Pulse Output Water Meter or Pulse Out Gas Meter or any other Pulse Output Device to the Omnimeter Pulse v.4, Omnimeter Pulse v.4 UL, or the Omnimeter HV v.5.
- Turn off power to the sub panel
- If you are only using the Omnimeter Pulse v.4 or the Omnimeter HV v.5 as a pulse counter it need to be connected to at least a 120 volt AC or in foreign countries a 230 volt system. Connect the 120 volt hot wire to port 7 on the Omnimeter Pulse v.4 and connect the neutral to port 10 on the Omnimeter Pulse v.4. If you using the Omnimeter Pulse v.4 as a pulse counter and an electrical meter then you will want to connect it using voltage reference wires and CTs, by following one of the options Here for your particular electrical system.
For Pulse Input 1, connect the pulse output wire from a water meter or gas meter to port 13 on the Omnimeter Pulse v.4 and the ground wire to port 14 on the Omnimeter Pulse v.4
For Pulse Input 2, connect the pulse output wire from a water meter or gas meter to port 12 on the Omnimeter Pulse v.4 and the ground wire to port 14 on the Omnimeter Pulse v.4
For Pulse Input 3, connect the pulse output wire from a water meter or gas meter to port 11 on the Omnimeter Pulse v.4 and the ground wire to port 14 on the Omnimeter Pulse v.4
Water and/or gas meters are installed inline in the water or gas line that they are intended to meter. They will put out a pulse (close a reed switch) for every unit of water or gas that is measured. The Omnimeter Pulse v.4 will then count these pulses. This is how we monitor water or gas meters remotely with a computer or over the internet. The pulse wires coming from the water and gas meters can be extended using twisted pair wires found in CAT5 an CAT6 cable. The distance can be 200 feet without any problem. It is possible to go further but you risk dropping pulses and therefore losing accuracy in you readings.
